Platte River Offers Rebate to Electric Customers

FORT COLLINS, Colo.- It's like having money in your pocket. Platte River Power Authority announces a new program for residential and business electricity customers of the municipal utilities of Platte River's owner communities-Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont and Loveland, Colorado. The Ka$h for Kilowatts™ Cooling Rebate Pilot Program offers cash rebates to customers who upgrade to an ENERGY STARĀ® central air conditioner or heat pump.

Rebates for residential equipment range from $200 to $250 per unit. Rebates of $90 per ton are available for larger equipment installed at commercial facilities.

The Pilot Program is the first of its type for Platte River and is an attempt to use energy efficiency measures to offset some of the increased demand for electricity that has occurred due to the area's growth and increased use of air conditioning. If the pilot program is successful, rebates will be offered in future years.

"We're pleased to be able to offer a program that makes energy-saving equipment more affordable," said Jon Little, Cooling Rebate Pilot Program manager. "The beauty of the program is that it benefits all of our customers because we are purchasing reductions in electricity demand at a price that is competitive with the cost of providing equivalent electrical generation."

To obtain a rebate, a customer must purchase and install an eligible central air conditioner or heat pump between March 1 and Nov. 30 of this year. A rebate application form must be completed and submitted along with a paid invoice/receipt. Rebate applications forms, instructions and lists of eligible equipment are available from local cooling equipment dealers.
