FORT COLLINS, Colo., May 2, 2019 – Following a nationwide search process, the Platte River Power Authority Board of Directors today announced that Sarah Dennison-Leonard will succeed Joe Wilson as the organization’s next general counsel.
“Sarah brings outstanding experience to a job that is vital to Platte River’s success as an energy provider,” said Todd Jirsa, chair of the Platte River Board and mayor of Estes Park. “She has distinguished herself in the utility sector for many years and managed numerous issues that align directly with our business needs.”
Dennison-Leonard will succeed Joe Wilson who has served as Platte River’s general counsel since 2007. Wilson announced his retirement in early 2019 and will conclude his service on May 24. Craig Johnson, senior deputy general counsel, will serve as interim general counsel through a planned transition period. Dennison-Leonard will lead a team of ten legal and compliance professionals. Dennison-Leonard will begin her work with Platte River on Aug. 5.
Since 1999, Dennison-Leonard has served as outside general counsel and corporate secretary for the Northwest Power Pool. From private practice, she represented several Midwestern utilities and joint action agencies concerning many legal issues, including significant transmission development projects as well as other transactional and regulatory proceedings. Dennison-Leonard earned her juris doctorate from Stanford Law School in 1994 and currently works for Marten Law in Portland.
