Construction update and lane closure

September 10, 2018
Construction crews at Platte River Power Authority’s headquarters location will soon begin to install piers that will support the foundation of our new building. A large pneumatic machine is required for this work and will operate between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. This process can be noisy and is estimated to take three weeks to complete.

In addition, Xcel Energy plans to close one lane of southbound Timberline to complete the installation of a new gas main line. Xcel Energy crews estimate lane closures for three to four days.

Horsetooth lane closure

Workers at Platte River’s headquarters construction project, located at Timberline and Horsetooth roads, will need to block off a west-bound lane of Horsetooth Road to install upgraded water service equipment for the new building. One lane of Horsetooth, just west of Timberline, will be blocked from Wednesday, July 11 through Wednesday, July 18 to install necessary pipes and fittings. In addition, the sidewalk on the north side of Horsetooth from Timberline to the temporary drive near the railroad tracks will be closed.

Trees

Contractors have begun the process of removing trees on the headquarters to start making room for more aggressive construction activities. With the approval from the City of Fort Collins, approximately 130 trees that are currently rooted on headquarters grounds, some of which are non-native to Colorado, will be cut down in the coming days. Wood from the trees will be used for park benches, aquatic habitat or mulch for planting beds. When construction on the new building nears completion, contractors will begin planting new trees. More than 200 new trees, all native to northern Colorado, will be placed on the grounds of the new campus.
