Energy EfficiencyCooling Rebate Program Overview
The Cooling Rebate Program offers cash rebates for upgrading to energy efficient cooling equipment. Rebates are available for new and replacement equipment
Eligible CustomersElectric customers served by one of the following four municipal utilities on a commercial electric rate are eligible for rebates when installing qualifying energy-efficient air-conditioning equipment:
- Estes Park Light and Power (Town of Estes Park);
- Fort Collins Utilities (City of Fort Collins);
- Longmont Power and Communications (City of Longmont);
- Loveland Water and Power Department (City of Loveland).
Qualifying Equipment
Equipment must meet all of the following criteria to qualify for a rebate:
- Equipment must he a split system, single package central air conditioner or heat pump, or a packaged terminal air conditioner or heat pump. Window unit air conditioners and evaporative coolers are not eligible for rebates. Split systems are only eligible for rebates of the efficiency of the matched indoor/outdoor unit meets, or exceeds, the efficiencies shown below. Efficiency ratings for condensing units alone are not sufficient to determine rebate eligibility.
- Equipment must be powered by three-phase electricity.
- Equipment must have a minimum efficiency rating that meets the requirements in the table below.

- Rebates increase by $4 per ton for every 0.1 EER over the minimum efficiency requirement.
- Rebate checks will normally be made out to the customer of record (the party associated with the electric account) as of the date the application was signed. Rebate checks may be made out to a different party at the request of the customer of record.
- Platte River is not responsible for inaccurate information provided by contractors or dealers regarding equipment installed or the amount and/or conditions of the actual rebate.
- Applications must be received by Platte River within 60 days of the installation date.
- A separate application form must he completed for each address where equipment is installed. A single application form can he used for multiple units installed at the same address.
- Efficiency ratings for each model must he documented in one of the following ways: (1) by indicating the ARI reference number, or (2) by providing manufacturer documentation such as an engineering cut-sheet for the specific model number installed.
- For rebate totals greater than $5.000, approval by Platte River is required prior to installation.
- Applications must be filled out completely and must include a copy of the dated sales invoice and rebate recipient’s W-9 tax form.
- Rebates will not be paid for incomplete applications.
Platte River reserves the right to verify the sales transaction and inspect the equipment installation. Rebate qualifications and amounts are subject to change at any time. The Cooling Rebate Program may he cancelled without notice. Customers need to check with Platte River to determine the current status of the program prior to making application for a rebate.
Rebates are taxable, unless you are exempt, and will he reported to the IRS if greater than $600. Platte River will report your rebate as income to you on IRS Form 1099 unless you have checked corporation or exempt tax status on the rebate application. Platte River is not responsible for any taxes that may he imposed on your business as a result of your receipt of a rebate.
Verification of Lawful Presence in the United States
In compliance with Colorado House Bill 06S-1023, Platte River will require participants who are individuals or sole proprietors (i.e., not corporations or partnerships) applying for incentives to prove their lawful presence in the United States. To do so, the participant will be required to provide identification acceptable under the House Bill in addition to a signed affidavit indicating his or her lawful presence. Platte River cannot provide an incentive to a participant who is unwilling or unable to meet this requirement.
